2024 NNA Annual Community Meeting
March 5-7, 2024 - Washington, DC.
The 2024 NNA Community Meeting will take place during March 5-7, 2024 in Washington, DC, jointly hosted by the NNA-CO and George Washington University (GWU) and held at the University Student Center on GWU’s Foggy Bottom campus.
This meeting will provide an opportunity for NNA researchers, NNA project partners, Arctic Indigenous community members, Indigenous organizations, policymakers, and federal agency partners to come together to consider the state of research and research relations within and beyond the NNA Initiative.
The theme, goals, and structure of the meeting will be further defined during spring, summer, and fall 2023 in consultation with the NNA Community.
The NNA-CO will provide regular updates in the lead up to the meeting through our monthly NNA-CO newsletter (subscribe below using the blue button) and here on this website. Stay tuned!

2021 NNA Annual Community Meeting
The 2021 NNA Annual Community Meeting for investigators and partners was held on November 8-10, 2021. This meeting, held in cooperation between the NNA-CO and the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) NNA Working group, provided an important opportunity for NNA project teams, Arctic community members, Indigenous and Traditional knowledge holders, decision makers and other experts to gather to discuss and highlight progress, opportunities, and challenges across the NNA initiative.
Each day of the meeting revolved around a distinct theme: strengthening equity in research (Day 1), identifying elements for convergence research (Day 2), or building a foundation for action (Day 3). Daily agendas included plenary presentations, discussion panels, and collaboratively developed training opportunities.
This meeting was held virtually using the conference app Whova. Future meetings will be a mix of in-person or virtual.
2020 NNA Investigators Meeting
The first NNA Investigators Meeting was hosted virtually on April 16-17, 2020. The NNA Investigators Meeting was a cooperative effort among the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Office of Polar Programs, the NNA Working group at NSF, the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS), experts on Indigenous/Traditional knowledge and working with Arctic communities, and NNA project investigators and team members.
Goals for the Virtual NNA Investigators Meeting were:
- To accelerate the rate of dissemination of ideas among researchers.
- To build an intellectual research core to address NNA challenges.
- To enable enhanced research collaborations.

NNA Project Lightning Talk Videos and Project Update Reports
The brief lightning talk recordings and project update reports found below were produced by each of the NNA project teams to introduce their projects to the wider NNA community and to highlight any unique collaboration opportunities that they are interested in exploring. The first document lists the order of the lightning talks and project update reports available below. Note that not all projects have both a public lightning talk and project update.
